Burlington Fire Department: shooting off fireworks in city limits is illegal

Burlington, IA-  The Burlington Fire Department is reminding residents that it is illegal to shoot off fireworks within city limits.

According to an online post, although consumer fireworks are able to be sold and purchased legally within city limits, it is illegal to shoot them off inside the city.

A violation of this ordinance can result in a fine of up to $750.00.

Consumer-grade fireworks are responsible for thousands of injuries and are the cause of thousands of fires every year.

The fire department reminds residents that there are multiple community events that will have fireworks displays throughout the holiday weekend.

The following events will have fireworks displays over the 4th of July weekend in the Burlington area:

  • July 1st – Cascade Boat Club
  • July 3rd – Community Field after the game (Community Field will also be having fireworks displays on June 24th, July 28th, & August 5th)
  • July 4th – Burlington Golf Club & West Burlington Days
  • July 8th – SEI Symphony at Crapo Park
