Ottumwa, IA-  The City of Ottumwa has fired three firefighters after an investigation of its fire department.

Radio Iowa reports that In a press release, the city of Ottumwa announced firefighters Derek Fye and Dillon Mcpherson plus Captain Bill Keith have been relieved of their duties. Fye and McPherson were fired for what the city described as “actions and behaviors that violated department rules, safe practices, and the values and standards of the City of Ottumwa.”

Keith was terminated due to “failure to adequately lead those under his command and displaying an attitude of indifference toward holding employees accountable to the values and standards of the department and the city of Ottumwa.”

The city did not offer specifics that led to the trio of firings though it did say it will look to immediately fill the spots vacated by the terminated firefighters.

The Ottumwa City Council had hired a Des Moines based law firm to investigate the fire department in May.  The reason for the investigation was not disclosed.
