Disaster Emergency funds available for Des Moines County

Des Moines, IA-  The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program has been made available by Governor Reynolds for those impacted by severe weather in Des Moines County beginning on August 4th.

According to Des Moines County Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Gina Hardin, Burlington and West Burlington as well as the surrounding area, was impacted by heavy rainfall that caused damage to homes and infrastructure.

Due to the damages sustained by individuals, a request for assistance was sent to the Governor.

The IIAGP provides grants of up to $5,000 for households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. The household must be the applicant’s primary residence and they must be living in the residence.

Grants are available for temporary housing, food assistance, personal property, and home repair. Applicants should note that supporting documents will be required for those seeking reimbursement for actual expenses related to storm recovery.

The grant application and instructions are available on the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management website.  Potential applicants have 45 days from the disaster declaration to submit a claim.

The Disaster Case Management Program is also available for those who have serious needs related to disaster-related hardship, injury, or adverse conditions. Disaster case managers work with clients to create a disaster recovery plan and provide guidance, advice, and referral to obtain a service or resource.

There are no income eligibility requirements for this program. It closes 180 days from the date of the governor’s proclamation which was signed on August 10, 2023.
