Mediapolis man arrested after firing gun in attempt to scare residents

Burlington, IA-  The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Mediapolis man for Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon and Reckless Use of a Firearm.

According to a news release, at about 10:20 PM Saturday, September 9th, Des Moines County Deputies were called to 10852 Mediapolis Road in reference to shots fired.

Deputies spoke with the complainant, who said that they heard a shotgun fired outside their residence, and saw a blue truck leave towards Mediapolis.

They indicated the suspect was 28-year-old Christopher Vargason of Mediapolis, and believed that Vargason was shooting at them or their residence.

Deputies located Vargason in Mediapolis, and spoke to him about the incident.  Vargason eventually admitted to firing a shotgun in the air outside the victim’s residence in an attempt to scare them.

After further investigation, Vargason was arrested and charged with Intimidation With a Dangerous Weapon and Reckless Use of a Firearm.
