Davenport, IA-  A Muscatine man was sentenced Wednesday, September 6th, to 14 years in prison for conspiracy to manufacture, distribute, and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

According to court documents, in May of 2022, authorities observed 49-year-old Benjamin Stuart Gomes receive a package from another man at a residence in Buffalo, Iowa, and drive away.

Shortly after, law enforcement made a traffic stop on the vehicle driven by Gomes in Muscatine County.

During the traffic stop, Gomes was found to be in possession of about three pounds of methamphetamine.  Gomes admitted he knowingly possessed methamphetamine with the intent to distribute some or all of it to others.

Pursuant to a subsequent search warrant of Gomes’s vehicle seized during the traffic stop, law enforcement recovered approximately sixteen pounds of methamphetamine from the vehicle.

Following his term of imprisonment, Gomes will be required to serve five years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
