Burlington, IA- Burlington voters on Tuesday voted to reject a potential School District tax levy increase and to re-elect a former school board president.
The Hawk Eye reports that a total of 304 Burlington residents voted no on the public measure, which would have allowed the Burlington School Board to increase the Physical Plant and Equipment (PPEL) property tax levy.
The current PPEL rate is 67 cents per every thousand dollars or assessed property tax valuation. If the measure had passed, the board would have had the ability to increase that tax rate to $1.34 per thousand dollar valuation.
Also during the special election, school board member and former board president Bryan Bross, who ran unopposed, was re-elected.
