Burlington, IA-  The Burlington Police Department has announced the arrest of two women who were found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

According to a news release, on Thursday, October 26th, detectives with the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force learned that 41-year-old Stephanie Ann Echols was staying in a room at the Fun City Resort Hotel.  Detectives were aware that Echols had an active pretrial violation warrant stemming from a controlled substance violation that occurred in November 2022.

Detectives began surveilling the room and observed Echols and another female, 48-year-old Wayann Marie Hand, exit the room and walk to the parking lot.

Detectives contacted Echols and Hand in the parking lot.  Echols told detectives that there was about one pound of methamphetamine in her room, and Hand told detectives there was a half-ounce of meth in the purse she was carrying.

Detectives executed a search warrant on the hotel room the two had been in and located about three-quarters of a pound of methamphetamine, packaging materials, and a digital scale.

Echols and Hand were both charged with Possession With Intent To Deliver Methamphetamine and Failure To Affix Drug Tax Stamp.
