
Carthage, Ill.- The Hancock County sheriff’s office has announced the arrest of a Clinton, Iowa man for possession of cocaine.
According to a news release, on October 24th at about 3:57 PM, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a citizen reporting a vehicle with no license plates speeding northbound on Illinois 336.
Deputies responded to that area and located the suspect vehicle, which was traveling at 121 MPH in a 65 MPH zone.
Deputies performed a traffic stop on the vehicle and located drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle. A Carthage Police Department officer arrived to assist, and the vehicle was searched.
Deputies located baggies containing a white powdery substance, baggies containing a crystallized substance, spoons coated with a white powdery substance, a baggie containing suspected psychedelic mushrooms, and the originally found glass smoking pipe.
The substances were field-tested and tested positive for cocaine. The driver, 39-year-old Thomas Walker of Clinton, Iowa was arrested and taken to the Hancock County Jail.
The total weight of all substances that tested positive for cocaine was 71.8 grams.
Walker was released after an initial court appearance with a notice to appear per the Illinois Safe-T Act.
