One person dead in Dallas City house fire

Dallas City, Ill.-  The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says that a residential fire in Dallas City, Illinois on Saturday, November 25th, led to a death investigation.

According to a news release, at about 10:47 AM Saturday, the Dallas City  Rural Fire Protection District was called to a structure fire at 180 West Second Street in Dallas City.  Firefighters arrived on the scene and found the structure fully engulfed in flames.

Fire crews battled the fire and located a person inside the structure who was already deceased.

When Hancock County Deputies arrived on scene, they learned that fire officials responded to the scene and made entry to the residence where they discovered the resident was still inside.

The fire was extinguished, and deputies worked with fire officials to investigate the fire and death.

The Hancock County Coroner was called to the scene, along with an investigator from the Illinois Fire Marshall’s Office.

The victim was removed from the scene and transported for an autopsy.  Preliminary results show the victim, who was identified as 74-year-old Lonnie Lewis of Dallas City, died of carbon monoxide and smoke inhalation.

The fire remains under investigation, and no foul play is suspected.
