Burlington man arrested for possessing a firearm as a felon

Burlington, IA-  The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Burlington man for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to a news release, on Friday, February 2nd, a Des Moines County Deputy stopped a vehicle at Highway 34 and Curran Street after recognizing the driver did not have a valid driver’s license.

The driver was identified as 35-year-old Joshua Vernon Sabins of Burlington.

During the stop, deputies conducted a consent search of the vehicle and located a loaded .50 caliber rifle under the driver’s seat.

Sabins told deputies that he was a felon and that he was the owner of the rifle.

Sabins was placed under arrest for possession of a firearm by a felon, no valid driver’s license, and no Insurance.
