Galesburg, Ill.-  The Galesburg Fire Department is investigating the cause of structure fire that occurred Monday.

According to a news release, at 10:07 AM on Monday, February 19th, the Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 149 East Main Street.

Upon arrival, fire crews encountered smoke and fire from the third story on the north and east sides of the structure.

The central station crew set up an aerial ladder and applied a master stream to the third floor, while firefighters made entry with a handline and made their way to the third floor to finish extinguishing the fire.

No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported, but two cats did die in the fire.  The cats were recovered and turned over to animal control.

Prior to firefighter’s arrival, a citizen noticed the fire, made entry to the second floor, and assisted a resident out of the building.

Due to concerns of structural integrity of the building, the west sidewalk of Prairie Street, and the south sidewalk of Main Street around the structure were blocked.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
