Beverly Joan Anderson, 85, of Burlington, died Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at her home.

Born August 4, 1938, in Burlington, she was the daughter of John and Dorothy Nelson Elliott.

Beverly was a woman of many talents and worked for many companies in the area. You may have seen her working at the following; multiple factories in the area, Family Medicine, The Salvation Army Store, Hawkeye Motors, Automatic Vending at G.E., Antennacraft, Champion, Evan’s Candy Store and recently at Smokey V’s Food Truck.

She loved the Lord and enjoyed attending Harmony Bible Church. Beverly enjoyed crocheting, sewing and trips to the ocean. She would be found feeding the birds, tending to her plants, or sitting on the porch with her dog Manny, smoking and either working on a crossword or reading the Hawkeye. She could also be found riding on the back of a motorcycle, at the casino, or listing to Classic Rock or Elvis. But the most important thing to Beverly was her family. She would have Sunday Night Dinners, celebrate everyone’s birthdays, and never missed her grandchildren’s events.

She will be remembered for her wonderful simile, selflessness, and was always helping everyone.

Survivors include her daughters, Marcia Brockway of Burlington, Laura Teesdale of Mountain Rest, SC, and Pam (V.J.) Koett of Burlington; five grandchildren, John, Drew (Elizabeth), Tommy (Joselyn), Lisa (Dennis), and Jimmy; one niece, Beth Elliott; one nephew, Tim Elliott; beloved dog, Mannny and all of her extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Visitation will be from 1:30 PM until 3:30 PM, Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The memorial service for Beverly Anderson will be 3:30 PM Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street with Pastor Nate Todd officiating.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

Carole Lynn Miles, 59, of Burlington, died Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

Born January 23, 1965, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Burdette Arthur “Burt” and Gloria Irene Bare Voss. On May 21, 2022, she married Rick Miles in Burlington.

Carole was a Paraeducator Professional for West Burlington.

Carole had an immense love for her friends as well as her family. She enjoyed crafting, the pool and was an avid animal lover, from rats to lizards.

Survivors include her husband, Rick Miles of Burlington; two children, Lauren Turner and Ben Turner both of Burlington; step-daughter, Teonna Dowell of IL; three grandchildren, Cameron Smith, Aaliyana Lewis, and Kaella Lewis; two sisters, Barbara Voss of Lake Mills, WI and Diane Wolfe of Olathe, KS; two fur babies, Gemma and Roxy

She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Rick Turner, and step-daughter, Nicole Beeding.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Carole’s family will receive guests for visitation at Prugh Funeral Service (3940 Division Street, Burlington) on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 1 pm.

A celebration of life for Carole will be held at 5:00 pm Friday, March 1, 2024, at Wake and Bake Breakfast Company.

Darsi Lynn Hodgkin, 59, of Burlington, died Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born February 19, 1965, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Joann Lee (Bell) Smith.

She was a graduate of Burlington High School and obtained her Associate’s degree from Southeastern Community College.

She worked for a time at Stackers and Green Lantern bars, did professional cleaning for rental apartments and worked at Addison Mechanical.

Darsi loved to be outside, mushroom hunting, spending time on the river and at her family’s cabin. She liked to garden and would can vegetables she grew each year. She was very social and loved spending time with friends, going to parties, playing BINGO, and attending blues concerts at The Washington with her mom. Darsi also loved cooking homemade chicken and noodles and enjoying a good piece of cake with extra frosting.

Survivors include her mother, Joann Lee Smith of Burlington; daughter, Madisyn Weyls of Burlington; sisters, Dawn Howerton and Dede Samul; step-sisters, Debi O’Malley and Patricia Pedon; step-brother, Jeff Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Douglas Smith, grandparents, Lawrence and Vera Bell, uncles, Robert and Terry Bell, aunt, Sharon Phillips and cousin, Steve Morrison.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Carol M. Cluney, 93, of Danville, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at OakView Care Center in Burlington, Iowa.
Born in rural Des Moines County, Iowa, on May 5, 1930, she was the youngest daughter of Charles and Eva (Anderson) Timmerman. On May 5, 1949, she married Richard Cluney Sr.
Over the years, she worked at various jobs including the Willoware, Basket Factory and eventually spent her last years at General Electric before retiring. Carol really enjoyed traveling, whether it was bus trips or overseas. She also enjoyed flea marketing with her sisters on weekends and adding to her collections of knick knacks.
She is survived by three children: Richard Cluney, Jr., Sharon (Richard) Wyett both of Danville, Iowa and Jeannette Butts of West Burlington; five grandchildren: Trisha and Erick Cluney, Sea (Danielle) Wyett, Kari Wyett, Quinton Smothers and three great grandchildren: Madisyn, Tate and Camber Wyett.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Kathy Caldwell, grandson Chad Caldwell, daughter in-law Sharon Cluney, sisters: Wilma Stafford, Esther Warth, Frances Cline, Cecil, Neta and Winnie Timmerman and two brothers: Atwood and Arthur Timmerman.
Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. A private graveside service at Long Creek Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Larry Bush passed away February 24, 2024, at Azria Prairie Ridge Nursing Home in Mediapolis, Iowa.
Larry was born August 5, 1942, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Cyrus and Welcome (Christner) Bush. Larry attended a one room country elementary school at West Chester Iowa High School He married Thelma Hill in 1963 in Wayland, Iowa.
A farm boy, he also was employed as a welder and carpenter before attending Barber College in 1962. He managed his barber business for 35 years and began a 15-year tenure at Federal Mogul, some years simultaneously.
At his father’s early death, Larry became responsible for his mother’s farm 50 miles from his home. With the help of his family, they worked the fields on nights and weekends for 30 years.
Larry was an avid gardener and loved sharing his produce – especially known for his sweet corn. His greatest pleasure was his hunting and fishing trips. He was once heard to say “I wish I didn’t have to sleep. There are so many things I want to do!”
Larry is survived by his wife Thelma Bush; son Lonny Bush; daughter-in-law Donna Bush and grandchildren Dominck Bush, Jacob Bush and Karlee Bush. He is also survived by his brother Dennis (Peggy) Bush.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, son Martin Bush, sister Leah Dell Beckley and two brothers Donald Bush and Loren Bush.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. No services are scheduled. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Mitchell Scott “Mitch” Lowe, 65, of Burlington, died Sunday, February 2024 at the University of Iowa.
Born February 28, 1958 in Hannibal, Missouri, he was the son of Cecil Raymond and Jo Ann (Yargus) Lowe.
Mitch was a graduate of Burlington High School in 1976. He was a department manager at Lowe’s for many years. He attended Burlington First Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed television shows, loved music, especially the oldies and The Carpenters. He was an animal lover and enjoyed dog sitting for his family members. Mitch loved his family and would do anything for them at any time and wouldn’t expect anything in return. He was truly loved by all his family and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his mother, Jo Ann Lowe; brothers Craig Lowe and Eric (Nancy) Lowe and sister April (Ed) Budzyn and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and father, Cecil.
The funeral for Mitch will be 11:30 am, Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Burlington First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jeff Alexander officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Ingeborg “Ing” Louise Zaiser, 98, of Burlington, died Monday, February 26, 2024 at Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born June 4, 1925 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Carl A. and Auguste (Mangl) Kalkbrenner.
Ing graduated from Burlington High School and Burlington College of Commerce, Secretarial. On September 27, 1947, she married Mark F. “Mike” Zaiser at St. Paul United Church of Christ. He died January 21, 2006.
Ing worked for Northwest Bell and was a teacher’s aide at Washington School. Her primary focus was being a homemaker for her family. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Ing was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in West Burlington. She was involved with women’s fellowship and teaching Sunday School. She was a seamstress and was a member of the Happy Go Lucky Sewing Club and formerly involved with the fireman auxiliary. She was very political minded and worked many years at the polls. She was involved in boy scouts and girl scouts. She was a grandmother to all, not just her own. Ing enjoyed spending time with family, going on mystery trips and kept in touch with her family in Germany and was lucky enough to visit. She had friends of all ages! Enjoyed sending notes and cards, and making loving phone calls.
Survivors include her children Annette Vincent, Danny (Dawn) Zaiser and Victoria (Dusty) Thye all of Burlington; grandchildren Bill, Mindy, Riley, Trey, Briar, Andrew, Hannah, Brody, Bryan, Staci and Shannon; fourteen great grandchildren and two on the way and one niece and several nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Mike and brother Carl Kalkbrenner, sister Rosemary Scarff.
The funeral for Ing will be 1pm Friday, March 1, 2024 at Lunning Chapel with Reverend Ned Fry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for St. Paul United Church of Christ.
