Burlington house considered a total loss following fire

Burlington, IA-  The Burlington Fire Department says that a house is considered a total loss following a fire.

According to a news release, at 5:19 PM Wednesday, February 28th, Burlington Firefighters were dispatched for a report of a house fire at 810 Maple Street in Burlington.

Firefighters arrived at 5:24 PM to find heavy smoke coming from the single-family residence.

As crews entered the house, they were met with heavy flames.

At the time of the incident, two nine-year-olds and a juvenile babysitter were inside.  The juvenile was alerted by a smoke detector and saw smoke and flames coming from the backside of the stove.

The three children, as well as two dogs and two cats, made it outside safely.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and is not considered suspicious. No one was injured.

The property was not insured at the time of the incident and is considered a total loss.
