
Burlington, IA- The Burlington Police Department has announced the arrest of two individuals following a traffic stop.
According to a news release, just after 5 PM Monday, March 18th, Burlington Police Officers stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation in the 500 block of South 9th Street.
During the stop, a BPD K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Officers searched the vehicle and located nearly three-quarters of a pound of suspected methamphetamine, over $7000 of U.S. currency, and a loaded 9mm handgun.
During the investigation, officers discovered the female driver and male passenger were the owners of the bags the methamphetamine was located in. Officers also located 25 pills, identified to be Alprazolam, inside the bag belonging to the female driver.
The handgun was located on top of the bag belonging to the male passenger, on the front passenger’s floorboard, where he had been sitting.
The Driver was identified as 36-year-old Jessica Mae Dettmers of Fort Madison, and the passenger was identified as 23-year-old Blake Joshua Briggs of Wayland Missouri.
Both were charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver and Failure to Affix Drug Tax Stamp. Briggs was also charged with Persons Ineligible to Possess a Firearm, and Dettmers was additionally charged with Unlawful Possession of Prescription Medication and Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp.
