Burlington, IA-  The Iowa Medical Society will be hosting a set of workforce town halls in Burlington.

Iowa Medical Society President Dr. Jessica Zuzga Reed says that there is a physician shortage crisis in the state of Iowa.

“Iowa ranks at 45th out of the 50 states for the number of patients to physicians,” Dr. Reed says.  “And the projection at the national level ten years from now, it projected for us to be short up to 124,000 physicians in the country.”

The Iowa Medical Society will host a set of workforce town halls at the Burlington Public Library on Tuesday, March 26th,  to discuss healthcare workforce issues and how the community can work together to solve them.

“Each community has unique needs,” Dr. Reed says.  “We have things in common but it’s really important for us to learn more about what unique needs there are in each community.”

Dr. Reed encourages not just healthcare professionals, but also the public to attend.  The town halls will be held at 10 AM and 1 PM.
