Burlington tree Advisory Board honored by the Urban Tree Council

Burlington, IA-  The Burlington Tree Advisory Board was named an Outstanding Community Organization by the Iowa Urban Tree Council.

According to a news release, the award was given to the Tree Council during the 33rd annual Urban Forestry Awards Ceremony on April 4th in Ankeny.

The Tree Advisory Board has provided recommendations for city ordinance changes and led various tree-planting initiatives.

Their extensive volunteer project at Aspen Grove Cemetery, in collaboration with the Forestry Department’s Davey Tree Keeper system, meticulously tagged and inventoried about 1300 trees.

The City of Burlington’s Tree Advisory Board members are Dale Schmeiser, Scott Zaiser, Lisa Louck, Robert Walker, David Hazell, Rebekah Labrecque, and Mary Jo Gruenther.

“The Burlington Tree Advisory Board is an outstanding example of Iowa’s urban forestry community organizations, by enhancing our forest resources,” said Emma Hanigan, Urban Forestry coordinator with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. “The work of the Tree Advisory Board will benefit Burlington for years to come.”
