One person killed in I-80 crash in Scott County

Scott County, IA-  The Scott County Sheriff’s Office says that one person was pronounced dead after a semi-truck collided with a vehicle on Interstate 80 in Scott County.

According to a news release, at about 9:41 PM Sunday, April 28th, the Scott County Emergency Communications Center received a crash detection call from a vehicle on I-80 near mile marker 288 1/2.

The Scott County Accident Investigation Team responded, and an investigation showed a 2024 Chevy Trax and a 2016 Freightliner semi were going eastbound when the semi made contact with the rear end of the Chevy.

The contact caused the vehicle to enter the south side ditch where it came to rest.  The driver of the semi, 31-year-old Serhii Holenko of Idaho was not injured.

The driver of the Chevy, 52-year-old Eric Fraelle (frail) of Peoria, IL, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers in the vehicle, 52-year-old Heather Fraelle, and a 16-year-old Juvenile, both from Peoria were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
