Ottumwa home damaged by gas explosion

Ottumwa, IA-  An Ottumwa home was damaged by a natural gas explosion on Sunday.

KYOU TV reports that, at about 7 AM Sunday, Ottumwa Dispatch received a 911 call saying a natural gas explosion had occurred at a home at 19 Asbury Circle in Ottumwa.

The two occupants of the home, a husband and wife, were awoken by the explosion, and the husband sustained burns to his arms and hands, and light burns to the face.  The wife was not injured.

Firefighters responded to the scene and saw the gas meter had a gas-fed fire coming from it.  The explosion blew out the windows and siding of the house, flipped the front deck, and burned through the roof.

The fire remains under investigation by MidAmerican Energy and the State Fire Marshall.
