Fort Madison, IA- The Fort Madison Bridge in Fort Madison had to be closed for several hours Thursday after it was struck by a barge.
TV Station WGEM reports that a barge hauling corn struck the north side of the bridge shortly after 1 PM, leaving the swing gate bridge stuck in the open position.
The bridge was re-opened and traffic was resumed sometime after 4 PM after BNSF certified the bridge to be safe.
