Burlington, IA- The Burlington Parks and Recreations Department on Thursday held the official grand opening of the new Dankwardt Park Playground.
Despite the rain, dozens of people came out to enjoy the new playground.
Burlington Parks Department Director Eric Tysland said that it is wonderful to see the vision for this playground finally become reality.
“It’s great to see all the smiling faces of the kids and families and adults out here celebrating with us and enjoying it even in the rain,” Tysland said. “Enjoying the new playground and play features, and it’s just exciting for us to see all of this come together finally.”
The new playground features 25,000 square feet of play features, accessible surfacing and play elements, site amenities, landscaping, and fun for all.
“it’s a destination-style playground with large features, but it also has unique features for ages two to adult,” Tysland said. “We have rubber surfacing that allows access by wheelchairs, so it’s for all ages and abilities,” according to Tysland.
