Alice Louise Pence, 84, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Courtyard Estates in Bushnell, Illinois.
Alice was born June 12, 1939 in Lomax, Illinois, the daughter of Fred B. and Dewey (Pitts) Cox. On September 15, 1957 she married David L. Pence in Lomax. He preceded her in death October 25, 2021.
Alice was raised in the Lomax area and graduated from Terre Haute High School in 1957. She was a homemaker when her children were young. Later, she was employed by King Seeley in Macomb, Schaefer Pen in Fort Madison and retired from Methode in Carthage. She also owned and operated Hometown Video in LaHarpe with her husband.
She enjoyed feeding and watching hummingbirds, crossword puzzles, watching game shows, and attending local sporting events. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include two children: Ed (Jennifer Schuster) Pence of Blandinsville, Illinois and Nancy (Jeff Abernathy) Vogler of Roseville, Illinois; nine grandchildren: Jennifer (Michael) Skinner, Tiffany (Sarah Job) Vogler, Tyler (Blake Red Elk) Vogler, Travis (Janelle Schneiderman) Pence, Montana (Michael) Applegate, Carley (Richard) Le Cuirot, Lacey (Josie Finch) Pence, Ryan (Isabella) Smith and Wyatt Pence; eighteen great-grandchildren: Sosie and Sloane Skinner, Cameron, O’Brien and Knox Job, Lucas Pence, Hayden, Tinley, Elliott, Rowynn and Jaxton Covert, Charlotte and Myles Le Cuirot, Ruby, Calvin and Vivian Smith, Ella and Emmy Applegate and one sister: Bea Tolander of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter: Jerri Lynn Smith; one son: Tim Pence; her parents; step-mother: Eunice Cox; a granddaighter-in-law: Alicia Pence and three brothers: Gail, Benny and Charles Cox.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Banks & Beals with Pastor Maxine Dennison officiating.
Cremation will be entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home following the service. Burial will be held at Crane Cemetery at a later date.

Paul M. Corzatt, 96, of rural Dallas City, Illinois, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at The Elms in Macomb, Illinois.
Paul was born August 28, 1927, in Raritan, Illinois, the son of A. Buell and Cordelia (Lofftus) Corzatt. On August 1, 1948 he married Barbara Blythe at the Durham United Methodist Church. She survives.
Paul spent his childhood in the Raritan area. His family moved to the Durham community in 1936, where he would live and farm all of his life. He enjoyed his work. He also hauled livestock for many years. He and Barb traveled together and in younger years attended many State Fairs with their family. He also enjoyed cattle and horse sales, horse races and tractor pulls. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the LaHarpe Masonic Lodge, Hancock County Farm Bureau and the LaHarpe Christian Church, where he served on the church board many years ago.
Besides his wife, survivors include four children: Kathy Butler of Blandinsville, Gary (Teresa) Corzatt of LaHarpe, Carol (Todd) Stevens of LaHarpe and Wayne (Debbie) Corzatt of Dallas City; eleven grandchildren: Julie (Jeremy) Smith, Matthew (Valerie) Butler, Jeffrey (Melissa) Butler, Robyn (Matt) Nichols, Laura (David) Panto, Kevin (Kimberly) Corzatt, Lesley (Bruce) McCain, Kristin (Chad) Lolling, Chris (Deanne) Corzatt, Craig (Kristina) Corzatt and Jensen (Mackenzie) Corzatt and 29 great-granchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents: two siblings: Ada Thompson and Ivan Corzatt; one son-in-law: David Butler and two great-granchildren: Jeffrey Panto and Laken Corzatt.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2024 at the LaHarpe Christian Church. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Nate McCarter and Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating.
Burial will follow in Durham Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Christian Church or MDH Hospice.

Roy Dwayne Ross, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at his home on June 4, 2024 as a result of his long-fought battle with thyroid cancer. He was born to Leslie Dale and Carlotha Pearl (Messer) Ross on December 11, 1941 at their family home in Olds, Iowa. Roy graduated from Olds Consolidated High School in 1960. He was united in marriage to Karol (King) Ross at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on February 16, 1964. In 1966, their daughter Anita (Ross) Shull was born.
Roy started his career after high school working for Kennedy’s Dairy as a Milk Man delivering to homes and businesses in the local area. In 1964 Roy joined the Iowa National Guard and later took a position as full time Army (ARNG) where he retired as a Command Sergeant Major (CSM). He served his county during Desert Storm and was a proud member of the military that serves our country. Before he became full time ARNG, he worked for Colonial Bakery, Moorman Feeds, Dickeys Prairie Home, and owned and operated “Sport Shack”, a local sporting goods store in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. After retirement from the Army, Roy owned and operated RACK Express delivering pharmaceuticals to pharmacies and hospitals and canceled bank checks to the Federal Reserve. He also drove many years for SEIBUS transporting members of Henry County to and from errands and appointments.
Roy loved basketball, softball, coin collecting and finding antique treasures. He was an avid supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Mt. Pleasant Panthers. His hobbies included bowling, fishing and NASCAR. He worked part-time enjoying his love of racing at the Donnellson Speedway. Roy and Karol spent many winters in Florida either in a condo or traveling in their motorhome and met many lifelong friends along the way. They also volunteered their time helping to dig wells in Guatemala.
Roy was extremely proud of his grandchildren Kelcey Williams (Mandy Axmann) and Spencer Shull (Cadie Brown-Shull) and his great grandchildren Kinsley Williams, Bellamy Brown-Shull and Athena Brown-Shull. He spent many hours on the lawnmower teaching his grandchildren to drive. He enjoyed watching their sporting events, taking them to races, and fishing with them. He and Karol also celebrated with a special trip to Disney with both of the grandchildren. He loved watching Kinsley play select softball via technology and streaming all her games. He also loved being able to video chat with Bellamy and Athena almost daily.
Roy will be greatly missed by his wife Karol; daughter Anita Shull; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sister Florence Ross Smith and husband Rick; nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother Keith Ross; sister Helen Schaefer and her husband Pete and their son Doug Schaeffer; sister Lois Roth and her husband Glen; brother Delmar Ross; and his father and mother-in-law, John and Frances (Bird) King.
Visitation will be held at Elliott Chapel, New London, from 9:00 – 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. The family asks that you join them with a toast to Roy during visitation hours enjoying his favorite Casey’s cake donuts along with juice and coffee. A Celebration of his life will begin at 11:00 with Chaplain Don Combs officiating. Inurnment of his cremains with military rites by The Henry County Honor Guard will be held at Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, following the service. Tyren D. Swank, age 26, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away at 6:42 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at University Of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He was born November 24, 1997 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Danny and Tasha Schramm Swank.
Tyren was a 2016 graduate of West Burlington High School. He had been employed at Shopko, J.I. Case, and KPI Concepts in Burlington. He also worked at the Feed Lot restaurant in Sronghurst for a time. He was an avid weight lifter and fitness fanatic, and enjoyed working out with his friends. He loved playing football and softball with his friends, and especially enjoyed late night online gaming.
Survivors include his parents: Tasha (Bob Avery II) Bundy of Stronghurst, Danny and Heidi Swank of Burlington, grandmother: Stacey Schramm of Stronghurst, great grandparents: Mary Jo and Bernie Oltman of Burlington, one brother: Trevor Warth of Stronghurst, five sisters: Tailor Schramm, Morgan Pennington, Raven Pennington, Jaden Pennington, and Keagan Swank, all of Burlington. Also surviving are three very special friends: Ronnie Ludington, Zach Warth, and Brent Nichols. He was preceded in death by grandparents: Barb Trautman, Richard Swank, Michael Schramm Sr., and Tammy Holeman.

Rickey Lee Mehaffy, 72, of Burlington, died Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born June 22, 1951 in Burlington, he was the son of Albert and Mary (Uffelman) Mehaffy. He was a previous member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
Rickey was a graduate of Burlington High School in the class of 1969. He served his country as a medic in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On June 22, 2004 he married Janet Diewold in Wapello, Iowa.
Rickey worked as a production union carpenter at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and was a member of the carpenter’s union local 410. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and being outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Janet of Burlington; three daughters Angel (Lance) Beck, Leanne Lund and Amber Mehaffy; 10 grandchildren; two sisters Barbara Helsel and Vicki Burnett of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Rose Griswold and one brother Carl “Butch” Mehaffy.
The funeral service for Rickey will be 11am Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Lunning Chapel with Reverend David Mixon officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be In Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Evelyn Chevalier, 94, of Burlington, died Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born December 23, 1929 in Northwood, Iowa, she was the daughter of Leonard and Mabel (Hall) Spilde. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. On May 2, 1953 she married Clarence Chevalier in Northwood, Iowa. He died December 24, 1997.
Evelyn worked in the lab and pathology at Mercy Hospital, and the blood bank in Burlington. She retired in 1996. She was a member of the American Medical Technologists, American Legion Auxiliary, Friends of the Burlington Public Library, Friends of Great River Medical Center, where she worked in the gift shop and a 4-H Leader.
She enjoyed her cats, spending time with her grandson and great grandkids and traveling. She liked playing bingo in the park with her friends and watching Jeopardy!
Survivors include one daughter Patricia (David) Fritz of Burlington; one grandson Nathan (Nicole) Fritz of Burlington; one great granddaughter Ava Fritz; one great grandson Leopold Fritz; special niece Dale Kling and niece Vicki (Stephen) Witherspoon and one nephew Paul Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.
The memorial service for Evelyn will be 11am, Wednesday, June 12th at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Ryan Cosgrove officiating. Inurnment will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.
Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Wendel Eugene Luko, 67, of New London, died Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born December 31, 1956 in Bloomfield to Robert Eugene and Merlene Maxine Guinn Luko. On March 27, 1976 he married Kerry Beavers at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant.
He attended Bloomfield Schools and was a 1975 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. He was a lifetime farmer and for thirty years worked as a secondary roads maintainer operator for Henry County.
His favorite thing was spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting; building anything; crafting with leather and deer antlers; farming and gardening; raising animals; playing cards; cooking and grilling; and spending time at the Henry County Fair with his daughters and grandchildren with their 4-H projects. He loved to be busy, especially doing something for his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of New London; daughters Michelle (Cameron) Gardner of Salem, Wende (John) Smyth of Mt. Union; four grandchildren, Kiersten (Chris) Smyth, Katelynn (Tristan) Gardner, Dalton (Keisha) Gardner, and Landon Smyth; two great-grandchildren, Kolton and Wendel Gardner, and one on the way; sister Wava Jarr of Fairfield; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Russell and Doyle Luko.
Visitation for Mr. Luko will be June 13, 2024 at Elliott Chapel, New London, beginning at noon with the family greeting friends from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. A Celebration of his life and a light lunch, will begin at noon on June 14th at the Mt. Pleasant VFW with a time to share “Wendel” stories. Pastor Gordon Hawkins will officiate. Donna Jean Curran , 93, of New London, died Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the Park Place Elder Living in Mount Pleasant.
Born May 24, 1931, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Roy S. and Zelda M. Ikerd Willson. On December 11, 1964, she married Max E. Curran in Burlington. He died on December 7, 1995.
She was a member of the Ollie Baptist Church, Bethany Lutheran Church and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She used to love going fishing and camping with the kids when they were younger. Donna enjoyed reading, word search puzzles and helping her son can vegetables.
Survivors include three daughters, Martha Curran of New London, Gayle (Bruce) Hartman of Burlington, Kathy Laughridge of Pettinger, ND; three sons, Max Curran of New London, Kelly (Carol) Curran of Jefferson, SD; Jay Lane of OK, 26 Grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and three sisters, Virginia Crawford of Burlington, Linda (Tom) Ryan of DE and Connie Hawkins of Lincoln, NE.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Dori Lane, four sons, Michael Pennington, Jack, Robert and Patrick Curran, three brothers, Richard, Jack and Larry Willson, daughter-in-law, Donna Curran, sister, Janet Henderson, two brothers-in-law, Terry Hawkins and Jack Crawford, granddaughter, Amanda Lane, grandson, Roy Allen Hartman and great-granddaughter, Danni Pickner.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

James Allen “Jim” Moss, 69, of Fort Madison, Iowa, died Monday, June 3, 2024, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Burlington, Iowa.
Born on June 22, 1954, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Ralph and Rose Mary “Rosie” (Frenzer) Moss. On August 18, 1973, he married K. Renee Ryder in West Burlington, Iowa.
Jim was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and a lifelong member of the National Rifle Associate. He graduated from West Burlington High School in 1973. In 2005 Jim retired from J.I. Case after many years working as a welder and machinist. In his free time, he could always be found out in his garage working on his lathe. Jim loved being outdoors hunting and fishing or attending the races. He was so proud to be an American and had so much respect for his country. One of Jim’s best attributes was his humor, joking around, making people laugh and bringing a smile to their face. Most of all, Jim loved being together with his family and his grand-pets.
He is survived by his wife Renee; four children: Jeremy (Deana) Moss of Burlington, Amber (T. Andrew) Johnson of West Point, Wesley (Hannah) Moss of Dallas City, Illinois and Hannah (Jeirod) Nichting of Fort Madison; twelve grandchildren: Ashlyn, Chavis, Myranda, Hadley, Finley, Briley, Kayden, Isaac, Lorelei, Kiptyn, Connor and Coraline; nine great grandchildren; four siblings: Frank (Mary) Moss of Kingston, Iowa, Deb (Hans) Trousil of West Burlington, David Lamb of Florida and Melody (Jim) Moulton of Canada. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild Zackery Moss and one sister-in-law Patricia Lamb.
The funeral service for Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2024, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Mick Hall officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Long Creek Cemetery in Danville, Iowa.
A memorial has been established in his memory for the Heritage Baptist Church bus ministry.

Robert “Bob” Rady, 77, of Burlington, died Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice in West Burlington.
Born March 30, 1947, in Burlington, he was the son of William Charles and Hazel Marie Rollins Rady. On August 30, 1973, he married Sharon Kylene Peterson in Lomax, IL.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from April 6, 1964 until April 6, 1970.
Bob worked for the City of Burlington in the Street Department for many years and he later drove the City Bus.
He was of Christian Faith. Bob enjoyed watching sprint car racing and watching his great-grandson race his go-cart. He also enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Cub’s Fan. He loved to spend time outdoors, camping and fishing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Kylene Rady of Burlington; one son, Michael Peterson of Oquawka, IL; two daughters, Molly (Andy) Kerr of Sperry and Melissa McIntire of Stronghurst, IL; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother in law, daughter-in-law, Chris Peterson and granddaughter, Alicia Pence.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM with the family to receive friends, Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The funeral service for Mr. Rady will be 10:00 AM Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. Burial will be in Carman Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Biggsville Illinois Legion Post 1176.
