Burlington, IA- The Burlington Fire Department says that multiple pets were killed in a house fire that occurred Tuesday.
According to a news release, firefighters were dispatched to 101 Melrose Ct. for a report of a structure fire at 2:42 PM Tuesday, July 16th.
Firefighters arrived five minutes later to find heavy smoke and flames showing from the rear of the structure.
The owner of the property was not home at the time of the incident, but three dogs and two cats were unable to make it out alive.
Damages to the structure are being assessed. One Burlington Firefighter sustained injuries during fireground operations.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and is not considered suspicious.
