Dorothy Hoffman, 95, of Burlington, died July 16, 2024 at Addington Place.
Born May 24, 1929 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Alfred and Nellie (Hand) Shofe. Dorothy graduated from Burlington High School. She married Warren Hoffman on October 11, 1947. They were married 61 years until his death on October 17, 2008. Dorothy was a member of Divine Mercy Parish.
Dorothy was one of the founders of Keystone Products, she was a broker and realtor for Riverfront Realty and she owned Dee-Mer Interior Decorating. Dorothy loved her family and cooking for them. She enjoyed going on the annual Christmas shopping trips with her daughters, daughter-in-law and granddaughters. She loved going to Christmas Mass with the whole family. Dorothy like to play bridge with her friends, video poker, and go dancing in her younger days. She was always giving to others.
Survivors include her children Mike Hoffman of Burlington, Dan (Joyce) Hoffman of West Burlington, Kathy Zimmer of Sioux City and Suzanne (Rob) Russell of Burlington; 10 grandchildren Andrea Kindorf, Meredith VanSyckle, Marcie Holzwarth, Robbie Zimmer, Traci Hoffman, Tim Hoffman, J.D. Hoffman, Christina Russell, Austin Russell, Zach Russell and 16 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Warren, her parents, brother Dick Shofe, sister Katherine Masters, granddaughter Stacie Zimmer.
The funeral mass for Dorothy will be 11:00 AM Friday, July 19, 2024 at St. John’s Church with Father Dominic Nguyen as celebrant. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:30 until the time of service on Friday.

Kenneth William McNeil, 97, of Middletown, Iowa passed away peacefully on July 16th at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
Ken was born December 31, 1926, in Burlington, Iowa to Clarence and Edith McNeil. He was raised, with his twin brother, on a farm in the Iowa Ordinance Plant. Ken graduated from Burlington High School in 1944 and joined the Army in 1945 and served until the war ended. He then started a 50-year career at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant until his retirement in 1996.
Ken married his wife, Elsie Mae Engstrom, January 22, 1966 and together they made their home in Middletown until her death November 10, 1999. They spent several winters in Arizona. Ken was active in the Middletown Presbyterian Church from the time he was a child until it closed in 2016.
Ken loved to bird hunt and fish with his brother Keith. He rode his bicycle up into his 90s to the post office to get his mail and to visit his brother who lived nearby. He loved Bluegrass music and going to “Prime Time” for church suppers and music. He and his brother traveled the countryside to listen to bluegrass music. He also loved Old Threshers and square dancing and mushroom hunting.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elsie Mae and sister-in-law Maxine.
He is survived by his twin brother, Keith McNeil of Middletown; four nephews Randy (Susan) McNeil, Kenny Hohmbraker, Tom (Cindy) Engstrom and Doug (Denise) Engstrom; one niece Pam Maupin; Great Nephew Caleb McNeil Engstrom as well as several other great nieces and nephews as well as several great-great nieces and nephews and special friends Karen & Kirk Soukup and sons.
The family very much appreciated all his caregivers.
The service for Kenneth will be 2pm Saturday, July 20th at Simple Gathering (Old Presbyterian Church in Middletown) with Pastor Simeon Counterman officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm until the time of service.

Connor Wil Patterson, 26, of Columbia, South Carolina, died Monday, July 8, 2024, at his home.
Born August 22, 1997, he was the son of Craig Patterson and Railynne Oetken Brown.
He was a graduate of Oakridge High School in Conroe, Texas and was thrilled to be asked to march with the band in the Macy’s Day Parade in 2012. He enrolled in the welding program at Southeastern Community College, attended Lincoln Tech in 2022 and was currently enrolled in Fortis College for Phlebotomy.
He was a member of Mediapolis Global Methodist Church.
Connor had an artistic and mechanical mind. He loved to skateboard and loved gaming. He could master all shapes and sizes of Rubiks cubes, and had quite the collection. He was always thinking outside the box. He loved cooking and enjoyed tasting authentic and worldly foods. Connor had a smile that would light up a room; he was very fun and loving and really cherished his time with his family.
He is survived by his parents, Railynne and John Brown and Craig Patterson; brother Colton (Adryana) Patterson; step siblings, Tanner Brown and Alyssa Brown; niece Dani Patterson, nephew Carter Patterson; maternal grandparents Ronald and Janet Oetken and paternal grandparents Anthony and Diane Patterson.
He was preceded in death by his sister Brooklyn Patterson, aunt Julaine Oetken and uncle Ryan Dale Oetken.
The funeral service for Connor will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 19th at the Mediapolis Global Methodist Church. Burial will be held in Kossuth Cemetery, rural Mediapolis. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.

Leo Wayne Scott, 91, of Burlington, formerly of Sperry, died Monday, July 15, 2024, at his home at Addington Place of Burlington.
Born February 9, 1933, in Sperry, Iowa, he was the son of Edmund and Josephine Hilda Scott. He married Ruby Sutcliffe on February 12, 1953. She died October 27, 2020.
Leo was a life long farmer and worked as a Supervisor for the US Gypsum plant, retiring after 30 years.
He was a member of Harmony Bible Church and a lifetime follower of Jesus Christ.
Leo lived for duck and geese hunting, and was a perfectionist when it came to his lawn, as he thoroughly enjoyed mowing the grass. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing, but more than anything loved his time spent with his family. He was a comedian and had a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his three children; Sheila (Jim) Flietner of Burlington, Alan (Julie) Scott of Bloomfield, Iowa and Monte (Kathleen) Scott of West Point, Iowa; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruby, son Troy Scott, grandson Dallas Scott, granddaughter Kerrie Scott, brother Paul and sister Rosemary.
The memorial funeral service for Leo will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 21st at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Dan Dingus will officiate. Burial will be held in Kingston Cemetery, rural Kingston, at a later date. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday.

Born July 14, 1975, in Cape Girardeau, MO, she was the daughter of Elvin Eugene and Connie Sue Roberts James. On April 17, 2014, she married Curtis James in Burlington.
Sally worked for the Missouri Popcorn Factory.
She was a member of the NRA. She loved animals and collecting weapons, especially fancy knives and blades. She enjoyed watching YouTube and her favorite YouTuber was “Lips”.
Survivors include her mother, Connie Sue James of Jackson, MO; her husband; two sons, Robert James of Iowa and Gabriel James of Burlington, Iowa; grandchild, Lillie James of TX; and two brothers, Donald James of Boulder, CO, and Gary James of TN.
She was preceded in death by her father, Elvin James and her sister, Susie Holstein.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
The Celebration of Life for Sally will be held at a later date.

Born March 22, 2023, in West Burlington, IA, she was the daughter of Aaron and Alyssa (Dixon) Abbott.
Caroline was the happiest child. She always had a smile on her face and her big, blue eyes spread joy wherever she was. She loved to talk and would say “Hi” to everyone she saw. Caroline loved to play, especially with her sister, Everlee. She was not a picky eater, as many children are, but instead liked trying new things. She enjoyed watching “Bluey” and loved music and dancing. She loved all of her animals very much and would cuddle with them often.
Survivors include her parents; one sister, Everlee Abbott of Burlington; paternal grandparents, Theresa and James Abbott of Burlington; maternal grandparents, Cathy Dixon, and Miles (Jennifer) Dixon; great-grandmother, O’Kemm Dixon; two aunts, Tara (Corbin) Folsom and Mallorie (Jesse) Gates; and cousins, Moira Gates, Mera Gates, and Mavis Gates.
She was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandparents, Michael and Margaret McCreight, James Abbott Sr., and Rosemarie Abbott-See; and maternal great-grandparents, Donald Dixon and Della (Francis) Laue.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

James A. “Jim” Brown, 74, of Burlington, died Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at his home.
Born February 18, 1950, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Virrel and Exxa Lou “Peggy” Brown.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and worked for ISC for many years.
He was of the Methodist faith.
Jim’s passion was fishing. He enjoyed playing pool and cards.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Brown; siblings, David Brown, Jerry Brown, Jane Armstrong, Lou Whitehair; sister-in-law, Rosemary Brown and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dan Brown and step-father Forrest Hunt.
The graveside service and inurnment with military honors for Mr. Brown will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20th in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun.
