West Burlington woman arrested for drug possession

Burlington, IA- The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a West Burlington woman on drug-related charges.

According to a news release, at about 1:23 AM Tuesday, July 30th, a Des Moines County Deputy stopped a vehicle going westbound on Mt. Pleasant Street for an abnormally loud exhaust and a muffler not properly attached.

During the stop, a Des Moines County K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics and a search of the vehicle was conducted.

Deputies located marijuana, multiple items of drug paraphernalia, and prescription medications.

The driver, 59-year-old Michelle Blakley of West Burlington, was arrested, and during transport Blakley indicated that she had additional narcotics on her person.

Once at the jail, a crystal-like substance, later field-tested to be methamphetamine, was located on her person.

Blakley was charged with 3 counts of possession of a controlled substance- 2nd or subsequent offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.
