Burlington man arrested following vehicle pursuit

Burlington, IA- The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Burlington man following a vehicle pursuit.

According to a news release, on Thursday, August 15th, Des Moines County Deputies observed a possible stolen vehicle traveling south on US Highway 61 near 210th Street.

Deputies attempted to catch up to the vehicle to verify that it was stolen.

The vehicle then accelerated and attempted to elude authorities while going south on Highway 61 at speeds greater than 25 MPH over the speed limit.

The vehicle continued to elude law enforcement until pulling over near Roosevelt Ave. and Mt. Pleasant Street.

The driver of the vehicle, 54-year-old Jeffery Lynn Elmore of Burlington was arrested and the vehicle he was driving was confirmed to be stolen.  Deputies searched the vehicle and Elmore’s person and located a drug pipe and methamphetamine.

Elmore appeared to be suffering from a medical condition and was taken to Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

Upon release from the hospital, Elmore was taken to the Des Moines County Correctional Center and charged with Eluding, 2nd Degree Theft, Driving While Barred, Reckless Driving, Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Offense, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
