Johnathan Dale Laue was born April 6, 1977, in Burlington, Iowa and passed away September 1, 2024, at his home in Pleasant Grove, Iowa.
Affectionately known as “JD” for much of his life, John grew up in Pleasant Grove and Des Moines, graduating from North High school in 1996. After a brief time in Chicago for college, John moved back to Des Moines where he met Chrys Whitmarsh in 1997 and they would go on to have John’s first daughter, Kiya Whitmarsh, born in February of 2002.
John met his future wife, Tauwana Madison in the early spring of 2005, and they were married in May of 2006. The newlyweds moved to Grand Junction, Iowa and made a home there for 13 years. John and T’s first child, Michael Laue, was born six months premature in May of 2009 and their second child, Serenity Laue was born in November of 2010. In 2017, T’s oldest daughter Diane Cronk reunited with the family, with John loving her as his own. The family moved back to Des Moines for a brief time, then to Indianola in 2019 where John became a grandfather to Adeline Harvey in October of 2020. Most recently, John, T and Serenity moved back to “The Grove” and had settled into the small-town life.
John loved cars, particularly working on them side by side with his daughters, singing karaoke, his dogs and most of all, “His Girls”.
John was preceded in death by son, Michael Steven Laue; uncles Wilfred Hoekman and Kenny Hoekman; grandparents Fred and Verna Hoekman, and Della and Francis Laue.
He is survived by “his girls”; wife Tauwana Laue; daughters Diane Cronk, Kiya Whitmarsh, Serenity Laue, and granddaughter Adeline Harvey.
He is also survived by his mother; Charlene Hoekman, father, Steven Laue; brother Matt (Jolene) Laue; sisters Beth (Dave) Laue, Laura Laue, Cari (Ric) Lara, Elaine (Alan) Laue-Vaughn, Kristina Carver; 10 nieces, 11 nephews, many cousins, great nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Monday, September 9th at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Pastor JudyAnn Morse will officiate.
According to his wishes, cremation will be accorded following the funeral service and has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Donald Carl Hamilton, 64, of Burlington, passed away suddenly on September 2, 2024 at his residence. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024 at the Wapello Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Louisa County Izaak Walton League. Donald Carl Hamilton was born February 10, 1960 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Donald and Alice (Beeding) Hamilton. Donald graduated from Wapello High School in 1979. He was working for ABB in Burlington or what most would know as General Electric. Don enjoyed listening to and collecting music, playing the guitar, and attending SCW Professional wrestling. He was a die-hard Detroit Lions fan.
He will be deeply missed by his siblings: Frank (Linda) Hamilton of Osceola; Leroy Hamilton of Burlington; Ruby (Pete) Peterson of Burlington and Ruth (Andy) Fisher of Mediapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Fay Dean and Freddie Dale Hamilton, Clint Hamilton, and Elizabeth Allison; two nephews; and one great-nephew.
Richard Leland Nyberg, 70, of Burlington, died Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at his residence.
Born November 5, 1953, in Mesa, Arizona, he was the son of Ray O. Nyberg and Jessie St. Louis. He married Lori D. Elmore on April 28, 1990, in West Burlington.
Rick worked for General Electric for 37 years until his retirement in 2009.
He traveled all over the United States on his BMW and Motoguzzi motorcycles and in the past few years, traveled extensively throughout the states visiting national parks in their converted camper with his wife Lori. His favorite states to visit would be to see the “rocks” in Utah and Colorado in addition to trout fishing in Northeast Iowa. Rick absolutely loved the outdoors and would rather sit by a campfire any day as opposed to being at home watching T.V.
He is survived by his loving wife Lori Nyberg of Burlington and sister Caryl (Ralph) Logan of West Burlington; he was a beloved Uncle to nieces and nephews, Monika, Rashawn, Wendy, Wally, Leanna, Jillian, Ryan and Alexis and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Vera Noble and two nephews, P.J. Noble and Mark Baker.
Lori would like to thank Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice for their wonderful care for Rick and express eternal gratitude to Paula, Brady and Michelle.
According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Clarence Franklin McClure, also known as “Frankie” or “Uncle Frank,” by those who loved him, passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side on August 31, 2024 at his home, Oak Lane Nursing Home & Rehab in Stronghurst, IL.
Frank was born on July 5, 1948 in Beardstown, IL.
He was proceeded in death by his father, Wilbur Byron McClure and his mother, Della Juanita Gertrude Moore.
Frank is survived by his three sisters, Christine (Donald) Royer of Hot Springs, AR; Leona Montgomery of Beardstown, IL and Barbara Wright of Rushville, IL. Also surviving is his niece, Cristal Queen (Michael Gipson) of Little York, IL; his nephews, Jim Self of Beardstown, IL; Tony (Ann) Self of Springfield, IL; Tony Royer of Rushville, IL; Mike Self (Vickie Atwood) of Beardstown, IL; Troy (Ang) Simpson of Denver, IL and Allen Montgomery of Keokuk, IA, along with two beloved great nieces, Amber Mann of Burlington, IA and Rachel Mann of Oquawka, IL, as well as several other nieces and nephews.
Frank enjoyed spending time at the nurse’s station at Oak Lane in Stronghurst, IL, in which he called home. We often referred to him as “The Chief.” So, his duties as “The Chief” were to direct the comings and goings of the staff and kept the nurses in line. Some of Frank’s favorite hobbies were watching movies and listening to his favorite band, KISS. His all time favorite TV shows were the Dukes of Hazard and Smokie and the Bandit. Frank was pure joy to any person that crossed his path. His spunk brought sunshine to everyone’s bad days. Although he was disabled with Cerebral Palsy, he lived life like there was no such thing as being disabled and that taught us to be grateful for what we have. He was a true inspiration to all of us. Frank is loved dearly and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Although he may be gone, his life will continue to live on through all our treasured memories we each have been blessed to have shared with Frank.
Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 10:00a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, IL. Burial will be held at a later date in the Beardstown, Illinois City Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Oak Lane Nursing Home. Rita Mae Phenicie, 81, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Oquawka, Illinois.
Born in Monmouth Hospital in Monmouth, Illinois, on February 16, 1943, she was the daughter of Harry D. and Martha Marie Bird.
Rita was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, White Shrine, D.A.R.-Stars and Stripes Chapter #5072-IA, and Questers. She had sold AVON since 1978 and won several Mrs. Albee statues and figurines for sales and was in the President’s Club and Honor Society with AVON district 243 for years.
She was a lifetime member of Weight Watchers since the 70’s when she reached her goal. She was a Past Worthy Matron of OES and held office in D.A.R. for several years and Regent for eleven years. She worked election boards for several years also.
She married Floyd J. Phenicie on August 31, 1979. He passed February 11, 2023. She and Floyd were very active in First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and served on diaconate for several years. They had 23 blessed years together and enjoyed traveling with White Shrine and Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter Julie (Robert) Jarvis; stepsons, Dean Phenicie and Ronald Phenicie; two very special step grandchildren; sister Emma Jean Kinnamon; brother Robert E. Bird Sr.; nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews; one grand dog; seven grand cats and numerous grand chickens. She LOVED all critters!
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Martha Bird, husband Floyd and baby brother Billy Bird.
A public Eastern Star service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 7th at Lunning Chapel. Visitation with family will follow until 3:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Baker officiating. Burial will be in Canders Cemetery, Seaton, Illinois, near Keithsburg, Illinois.
