Burlington Police Department arrests two people on active warrants

Burlington, IA-  The Burlington Police Department has announced the arrests of two people on arrest warrants.

According to a news release, on Thursday September 12th, detectives with the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force were in the 500 block of South Adams Street, and noticed a female walking in the area who they knew to be Makayla Cheely.

Officers had previous knowledge of Cheely having multiple warrants for probation violation and escape.

When officers attempted to approach Cheely, she ran into a residence at 512 Starr Street. Officers approached the residence and encountered a male who exited the residence, later identified as Jordan Parnell.

Parnell was found to have warrants for operation of a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and an escape warrant out of Ottumwa.

Parnell was taken into custody and taken to the Des Moines County Jail.  Detectives executed a search warrant at the residence, and Cheely was located hiding in the attic.

Cheely was arrested and taken to the Des Moines County Jail.
