Mount Pleasant man arrested for OWI following single-vehicle crash

Burlington, IA-  The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Mount Pleasant man for Operating while Intoxicated following a single-vehicle accident.

According to a news release, at about 10:43 PM Friday, September 13th, Des Moines County Deputies were dispatched to US Highway 34 and Des Moines-Henry Avenue for a single-vehicle accident.

Deputies located a vehicle in the north ditch about 75 yards away from the roadway.

The driver, 35-year-old Colton Lee Atchley of Mount Pleasant, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was taken to the Des Moines County Correctional Center for further investigation. Atchley refused field sobriety testing and refused to take a preliminary breath test.

He was placed under arrest for operating while intoxicated 3rd or subsequent offense, driving while barred, failure to maintain control, and no insurance.
