Patrick Thomas McLaughlin, 92, of Burlington, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 23, 2024, in his apartment at Addington Place in West Burlington.
Born in Burlington in 1931, he was the son of Daniel A. and Marie E. Fitzgerald McLaughlin. Pat lived in Burlington most of his life except during the great depression as a child, his family lived in the Dodgeville / Mediapolis area. On September 19, 1953, he married Elsie Colleen Whitaker in Burlington, Iowa. They celebrated many wonderful years until her passing on February 3, 2023.
Pat worked for Carl A Nelson Construction, was a licensed real estate agent and finished his career working for over 15 years at the Iowa State Penitentiary. He would often joke that working with maximum security inmates was one of the most rewarding aspects of his career. In 1979 Pat opened the West Side Racquetball Club in West Burlington, Iowa and would own and operate the club for about 6 years prior to moving on to the Iowa State Penitentiary where he would retire from.
One of Pat’s passions in life was the sport of handball, which was the catalyst for him opening the club in West Burlington. Pat would spend the 1970’s and 1980’s running handball leagues and tournaments in Burlington at the downtown YMCA and then the club in West Burlington. Family vacations would often be in conjunction with the national junior’s handball tournaments that all three of his son’s would compete in throughout their youth. Pat played handball competitively until he was about 84 years old and when he was 80, he traveled to Minneapolis for the national tournament and finished second in the doubles division for players 80 and above. Pat was also an avid hunter and traveler. He would often travel to Missouri to hunt with his son Pat and his grandson Drake. He also traveled to Africa for a hunting trip and several times to South America duck hunting with Pat Jr. He and Elsie traveled to Alaska, Mexico, Europe, Hawaii and went on several cruises.
Survivors include his sons, Patrick (Lori) McLaughlin of Dawn, MO, Andrew (Yumiko Shiga) McLaughlin of Fort Myers, FL, and Matt (Melanie) McLaughlin of Lenexa, KS; four grandchildren, Lauryn McLaughlin of Shawnee, KS, Drake McLaughlin of Ames, IA, Madison McLaughlin of Lenexa, KS, and Tengi Shiga of New York, NY; and two sisters, Linda K (Tom) Clayton and Rosemary Carol Abel both of Burlington.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Dan and Eugene McLaughlin, three sisters: Lorraine Hockett, Rita Smith, and Joan Riley.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Bonnie was born November 6, 1954 at the LaHarpe Hospital the daughter of Glenn and Dorothy (Bartlett) Snyder. On June 22, 1974 she married Gene Willdrick at the Burnside United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Willdrick was a 1972 graduate of LaHarpe High School. Shortly after high school she began working at General Electric in Burlington. Once her children were born, she stayed home to raise her family. During this time, she also was a foster parent, volunteered with the Lomax Ambulance for 12 years and drove a school bus for the Dallas City, LaHarpe, Nauvoo, and Fort Madison Schools for over 16 years. Once her children were older, she returned to GE in Burlington. Following her retirement, she remained active working for the Bank of Stronghurst at their Dallas City location. She enjoyed riding motorcycles, traveling, yard work and cutting wood for the winter. Bonnie was a lifelong platelet donor, which she took great pride in.
Survivors include her husband, Gene, three children: Dottie (Kurt) Pfeiff of West Burlington, Iowa, Russell (Natalie) Willdrick of East Peoria, Illinois and Marcus Willdrick of Dallas City; eight grandchildren: Tyler Willdrick, Garet Palmer, Julissa Willdrick, Carter Willdrick, Jaylee Willdrick, Spencer Pfeiff, Parker Pfeiff, and River Pfeiff and seven great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are Bonnie’s siblings: Beverly (Steven) Brunk of Danville, Iowa, Barbara (Edward) Burford of Warsaw, Illinois, Betty (Rene) Medina of Denmark, Iowa, Becky (Larry) Flowers of West Burlington, Iowa, Chester (Joyce) Snyder of Colusa, Illinois, Billie Mosher of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Brenda Womack of Ft. Madison, Bea (Alan) Huls of Wataga, Illinois, and Glenn (Terry) Snyder Jr. of Buffalo, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter: Mikhaila Palmer and one brother: Dale Snyder.
Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
The funeral service for Bonnie will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Banks & Beals in Dallas City with Joel Schwenker speaking. Burial will follow in Durham Cemetery.

Marlene Joyce (Hasstedt) Rossiter of Winfield, Iowa and more recently Lake Worth, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. Marlene Joyce Hasstedt was born on April 11, 1931 in Ogden, Iowa, the daughter of the late John and Clarice Caldwell Hasstedt. Marlene graduated High School in 1949 and attended Iowa State College where she met her husband, Myers Rossiter. They were married February 18, 1951. They enjoyed farming, flying, traveling and family activities with their two daughters, Vicki Lynn and Julee Ann.
Marlene’s hobbies included quilting, sewing, gardening, watercolor painting and closely following basketball and football. She was a 4-H leader for 15 years, member of Ametie Federation Club and TTT member for 43 years. As a member of the Methodist Church Marlene served as Trustee 6 years, Sunday School teacher and Historian of the Women’s Society, member of the Iowa and International Flying Farmers for which she served as Hostess in 1995. Ursula Kick, a foreign exchange student from Germany, was a member of the Rossiter Family from 1969-70 while she attended Winfield High School. Marlene and her husband enjoyed many winters in Florida, travels to England, Spain, Italy, Wales, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii and many flights in their Cessna Airplane.
Marlene will be deeply missed by her daughters, Vicki (Chris Bennett) Kirsner of West Palm Beach, Florida and Julee (David) Evans of Barnesville, Maryland; grandchildren, Michael Kirsner of West Palm Beach, Florida, Dr. Andrew Kirsner of Lakewood, Colorado, Brianne Evans of England and Dylan Evans of Aurora, Colorado; great-grandson, Jonathan Kirsner; sister, Madonna Woodley and nephews, Greg and Fred Woodley,
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Kenneth Hasstedt and Roger Hasstedt.
In 2022 Marlene moved to Lake Worth, Florida where she enjoyed the close proximity to family and numerous outings including Polo, Swan Lake Ballet, Symphony at the Hardrock Casino, Birthday Celebrations and family bar-b-ques. Marlene made many friends at Assisted Living and was cherished by staff and residents alike. She was deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
