Muscatine man arrested following pursuit, crash

Louisa County, IA-  The Louisa County Sheriff’s office says a Muscatine man has been arrested on multiple charges following a vehicle pursuit and crash.

According to a news release, at about 3:06 PM Thursday, October 3rd, the Columbus Junction Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for multiple traffic violations.

The driver would stop, exited his vehicle, then went back into his vehicle and fled westbound from downtown Columbus Junction, nearly colliding with multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed.

The driver continued on Highway 92, where they crashed at a road construction barrier near X17, then rolled the vehicle multiple times.

The driver ran from the crash into a timber to the south.

Louisa County Deputies and Columbus Junction Police later located the suspect with a K9 and a drone.   A Deputy Sheriff was injured in the attempt to capture the subject in the timber and sustained minor injuries.

The suspect,  later identified as 46-year-old Francisco Nunez of Muscatine, Iowa, complained of injuries but was later cleared at an area hospital.

Nunez remains at the Louisa County Jail on a $7,500 cash-only bond.

Nunez is charged with Felony Eluding, Driving While Revoked, Interference With Official Acts, Driving While Suspended, Reckless Driving, and multiple traffic citations.

The Sherriff’s Office says further charges are pending.
