Burlington, IA-  The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a new phone scam.

According to a news release, the Sheriff’s Office has received multiple phone calls regarding jury duty scams.

The Sheriff’s Office advises residents that if they receive a phone call asking to provide certain personal information, or to send payment to avoid arrest or other penalty, it’s likely a scam.

The Sheriff’s office does not serve warrants by phone, email, or fax, nor do they demand payment of money to avoid arrest.

Residents are reminded not to share their personal information, such as a mother’s maiden name or a bank account number.

If you receive a suspicious call or email, do not provide any requested information, and instead notify the Clerk of Court’s Office of the US District Court.
