Great River Health (GRH) will be switching its electronic health record (EHR) platform from Oracle (Cerner) to Epic, according to a press release. The Great River Health Board of Directors, the Executive Team, and key stakeholders within the organization unanimously approved this decision. The Epic EHR will be implemented throughout the health system allowing for continued streamlined communication. This change will improve the overall patient experience through a better patient portal with MyChart, improved patient outcomes, increased care coordination, and better population health management.
The move to Epic will also increase efficiency and standardization with better processes and reporting utilizing data-driven decision-making, contributing to operational improvements. It will increase staff productivity, and aid in recruiting and retaining staff and providers, as 90% of medical students in the United States are trained on Epic.
Dr. Michael McCoy, President and CEO of Great River Health System stated “This conversion to Epic is very exciting, as Epic is the Gold Standard for EHRs. It will connect us to all the major health systems throughout the Midwest, including the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, launching GRH into an Epic future!”
This is an eighteen-month project with a tentative go-live date of July 2026. Information will be shared with Great River Health patients as the project progresses.
