Illinois is bolstering its electric vehicle infrastructure with $25.3 million in grants to build 182 charging stations along interstates, ensuring hubs every 50 miles. Part of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, the move supports the state’s goal of one million EVs on the road by 2030.
Dealers anticipate the expansion will ease “range anxiety,” encouraging EV sales. Charging hubs will feature fast-charging ports capable of fully charging vehicles in under 30 minutes, improving long-trip convenience.
While federal tax incentives, like the $7,500 EV credit, currently boost sales, potential changes under President-elect Trump’s administration raise uncertainty. Despite this, dealers remain optimistic about EV adoption, especially for drivers with short commutes.
