Muscatine City Council has appointed Matthew T. Mardesen as the new city administrator, with his role officially beginning on Dec. 16. Mardesen, chosen after a four-month search, succeeds Interim City Administrator Anthony Kies, who will return to his position as Police Chief.
Mardesen, a veteran administrator with over 20 years of experience, has held leadership roles in Monroe, Nevada, and Council Bluffs, Iowa, and worked in the private sector at JEO Consulting Group.
He emphasized the critical role housing development plays in the city’s growth stating, “Expanding diverse housing options is essential to attract young professionals and build a strong future for Muscatine.” He plans to collaborate closely with developers to create the housing required to support the city’s evolving community needs.
