The West Burlington School District will hold a special election on March 4 to extend its Physical, Plant, and Equipment Levy (PPEL) for another 10 years at the current rate of $1.34 per $1,000 of assessed property value. The levy funds maintenance, repairs, and equipment upgrades without raising taxes, according to The Hawk Eye.

Since 2017, the levy has generated about $2 million, supporting projects like playground improvements, kitchen upgrades, and classroom renovations. District officials emphasize the extension is crucial to address aging facilities and avoid reallocating general funds, which could impact educational services.

A simple majority vote is required for approval. If the measure fails, another vote could be held in September.
