Pathfinders Resource Conservation and Development, in collaboration with the University of Iowa, is expanding its accessibility map statewide to include parks, trails, museums, and cultural sites. The map highlights features like wheelchair ramps and accessible restrooms, aiming to make Iowa more inclusive for people with disabilities and their caregivers.
A public survey on Pathfinders’ website invites Iowans to suggest accessible locations or areas needing improvement. University of Iowa students are helping design the interactive map as part of their Initiative for Sustainable Communities program.
The expanded map builds on an existing south-central Iowa resource and currently includes accessible campgrounds, trails, and playgrounds, with plans to grow through public input.
