ICC Approves Ameren Illinois Rate Hike

The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) has approved a $309 million rate increase for Ameren Illinois as part of its integrated grid plan. Spread through 2027, the hike is roughly 7% less than the utility initially requested.

Ameren Illinois spokesperson Tucker Kennedy stated that the company expects the increase to add less than $1 per month to customer bills in 2025. The approved plan follows the ICC’s rejection of a previous Ameren proposal in 2023.

The rate hike will fund grid upgrades to support Illinois’ transition to 100% clean energy by 2050 under the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act. Environmental advocates argue that the improvements will reduce costs in the long term by expanding access to clean energy.
