Obituaries for Thursday December 26th

Linda J. Hofmann, 80, of Burlington, died Monday, December 23, 2024, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born July 10, 1944, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Earl and Helen Conlee Bechtel. In August of 1967, she married Fred Hofmann at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Burlington.

She graduated from Burlington High School. Linda was an in-home daycare provider for many years.

She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Linda enjoyed traveling, playing cards, Bingo and cooking for her family. Linda loved spending time with her grandsons and enjoyed taking them out to lunch after church.

Survivors include husband, Fred Hofmann of Burlington; son, Chad (Mary) Hofmann of West Burlington; two grandchildren, Brandon (Shelby) Hofmann and Colin (Brynn) Hofmann; two step-grandchildren, Sidney and Spencer Ellsworth; great-grandson, Theo Hofmann; brother, Gary Bechtel of Burlington; three sisters, Marlene Jacobs, Tina Olomon and Brenda (Kevin) Graham all of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ronald Bechtel.

The Graveside Committal Service for Linda will be 2:00 PM Friday, December 27, 2024, at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Reverend David J. Yonker officiating.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for the Kids Camp.

Marian Ruth Chaddock, 99, of Burlington, died Sunday, December 22, 2024, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born March 10, 1925, in Waukegan, IL, she was the daughter of Gustaf Arnold and Emma Elizabeth Lind Erickson. On September 20, 1958, she married E.O. Chaddock Jr. in Trinity Lutheran Church in Waukegan, IL. He preceded her in death on February 21, 2002.

She started her nursing education at the Great Lakes Naval Academy in Illinois and later graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. She practiced nursing until her children were born and then took some time off to raise them. Eventually she returned to nursing, working at Fort Madison Nursing Care Center for 15 years.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the Altar Guild, serving condolence luncheons, Miriam Circle and the WELCA. Marian enjoyed working outside around the house, and taking her dog for golf cart rides. Marian never met a stranger, she enjoyed visiting with her friends and neighbors as well as playing for a friendly game of cards. She loved sports. When she was not playing on the city bowling league, she was cheering on the Cubs.

Survivors include two sons, Rob (Darla) Chaddock of Yarmouth and Jim Chaddock of Burlington; daughter, Jan (Scott) Creighton of Burlington; grandson, Chase (Stephanie) Klenk; granddaughter, Emily Chaddock; and one great-grandson, Russell Klenk.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Friday, January 3, 2025, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 2515 Madison Ave. Burlington.

The memorial service for Mrs. Chaddock will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 3, 2025, at Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Misha McFarland-Pollock officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the church immediately following the service. Private family burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Deloris Ann Ullrich Blaufuss, 95, of Burlington, died Monday, December 23, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born October 30, 1929, in West Burlington, she was the daughter of Walter and Clematice Woodard Ullrich. On June 5, 1955, she married Charles O. Blaufuss in Burlington. He died May 18, 2011.

Mrs. Blaufuss graduated from Burlington High School, Burlington Junior College, and received a Bachelor of Music degree from Coe College, Cedar Rapids. Prior to her marriage, she taught music and English at Letts, Iowa Consolidated Schools and in Yarmouth, Iowa Consolidated Schools. After her marriage, she was a homemaker. She was also part time secretary for St. Luke United Church of Christ.

Deloris was a member of St. Luke United Church of Christ and St. Luke Sunday School.  She taught in the Sunday School for over 60 years and was the superintendent there as well.  She was also a member of St. Luke Peace Fellowship, St. Luke Women’s Fellowship, St. Luke Consistory, Sarah Circle, Advisory Council of the Southeastern Iowa Association of the United Church of Christ and a member of the Burlington area CROP Walk Steering Committee.  She was a Cub Scout den mother and a Brownie leader.  Her special joy was her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Blaufuss of Burlington; four sons, Stephen (Christiane) Blaufuss of Spokane Valley. WA, Craig (Vicki) Blaufuss of Webster City, IA, Kurt (Mary) Schaller Blaufuss of Washington, MO, Erich (Elizabeth Cooley) Blaufuss of St. Louis, MO; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, twin sister, Doris Dean Ullrich and brother, Donald E. Ullrich.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Friday, December 27, 2024 at St. Luke United Church of Christ, 1403 South St., Burlington.

The funeral service for Mrs. Blaufuss will be 11:00 AM Friday, December 27, 2024, at St. Luke United Church of Christ.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the church fellowship hall following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for St. Luke United Church of Christ Sunday School Children’s Mission Fund, which helps children in the Burlington School System, and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.

Glennis G. Klein, age 89, formerly of Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away Monday, December 16, 2024, in Danville, Illinois. She was born June 11, 1935, near Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Christian and Cassie Ketelsen. On February 28, 1959, she married Delbert Klein in Burlington, Iowa.
Ms. Klein attended nursing school and originally worked in the healthcare industry but spent the largest part of her career conducting inventory for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Iowa. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, crafts, travel, and meeting with the Bethel Lutheran Church Women as a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church of Stronghurst.
Survivors include sons Reed (Julie) VanderSchel of Putnam, CT, and Dolan (Susanne) Klein of Savoy, IL; one daughter, Mary Cook of Bloomington, IL; seven grandchildren, Melinda, Jason, and Julia VanderSchel, Sarah and Jessica Cook, Parker and Samantha Klein, and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, five sisters, and two brothers.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2024, at the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in  Stronghurst, with interment to follow in the Stronghurst Cemetery, with Quentin Peterson officiating.
