Lori Dawn Hardin, 62, longtime resident of Oakville and currently of Burlington, died Thursday, January 16, 2025, Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born March 2, 1962, in Des Moines County, IA, she was the daughter of Ray Louis and Joyce Elaine (Faris) Hardin. She was devoted to her Lord and Savior, and will be remembered for her love, kindness, and unwavering commitment to her faith. She enjoyed her time with her dogs, Maddie and Mocha. They were very special to her.

Lori was a pre-school and kindergarten teacher at Faith Academy Christian School for two years. She worked at Country Bumpkins at Westland Mall for two years and Country Gallery at Westland Mall for two years. She also worked at the restaurant Pzazz Starlight Gardens, and the restaurant The Bread Basket as a cook. Lori substitute taught grades K-12 for Burlington Community Schools for thirty years, where she retired from.

She loved painting, drawing, crafting, mushroom hunting, fishing, baking, canning, and writing children’s books. Lori wrote two children’s books; Little Ducky Drummer and Squiggly and the Bully. These two books were self published.

Her greatest love was spending time with her family and church. She was of the Apostolic Christian faith. She loved children and will be remembered as the candy lady.

Survivors include her brother and sisters, Mike Hardin of Wapello, Tari Heiniger of Wapello, Gena (Tim) Heiniger of West Burlington, Joy (Frosty) Branch of Mediapolis; four nieces and five nephews, Megan (Mike) Spurgeon, Darcy Hardin,  Kandi (Jody) Heiniger Jenkins, Kristen (Bryan) Brown, Nicholas (Cara Rabik) Heiniger, Adam (Jillian Paris) Heiniger, Dustin Hardin, Morgan (Leelu Daigle) Branch, Logan Branch, five great nieces; three great nephews and one great-great-nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Joyce (Faris) Hardin, grandparents, Gene and Pauline (Fisher) Faris, Paul and Viola (Aberle) Hardin and her brother-in-law, Doug Heiniger.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 9:30 AM Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Mediapolis-Oakville Apostolic Christian Church. The funeral service for Ms. Hardin will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Mediapolis-Oakville Apostolic Christian Church with Ministers of the Church officiating. Burial will be in Edwards Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at the church following the burial.

Memorials have been established for the Apostolic Christian Church in Mediapolis and Southeast Iowa Hospice House.

Janet Sue Rippenkroeger, 75, of New London, died Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House, West Burlington.  She was born March 27, 1949 in Oakville, Illinois to Wilbur and Helen Rose Hangartner Seggerman.  She attended Winfield schools and was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Burlington.

She married David Mathews in 1965; they later divorced.  On May 7, 1988, she married Darrell Long; he died March 10, 2015.  She married Randy Rippenkroeger February 10, 2017 at Heritage Baptist Church.

Janet worked in housekeeping at the Harlan Hotel in Mt. Pleasant and retired after twenty-seven years at Heatilator.  She enjoyed mini-vacations; watching the hummingbirds at her kitchen window; was a good cook and loved to eat Randy’s fresh caught fish; she adored her cats Izzy and Midnight; but most importantly, she loved her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Randy; two daughters, Kimberly (Terri) Hester-Mathews of Winfield and Lindsey Wagner of Mt. Pleasant; step-children, Christie  (Harley) Davidson of Donnellson, Randy (Patricia) Rippenkroeger of Ft. Madison, Gary (Robin) Long of New London and Michael Cain of Croton, Iowa; twelve grandchildren, Paige, Kylie, Madelyn, Adriana, Courtney, Alayna, Rylan, Nicholas, Maci, Damion, Lincoln and Ellie; two great-grandchildren Braydon and Amelia; Brothers Eddie (Charlene) Seggerman of Mt. Pleasant, Leslie (Jean) Seggerman of Roanoke, Illinois, Myron Seggerman of Seattle, Washington, and Greg (Penny) Seggerman of Texas; sisters Beverly (Jeff) Rodgers of Bettensport, and Janel Finneman of South Dakota.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Willy; and infant sister Joella.

The funeral service for Mrs. Rippenkroeger will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, January 20, 2025 at Elliott Chapel, New London.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 with the family present to greet friends from 11:00 until the time of the service.  Burial will follow at Sheridan Cemetery, Mt. Peter “Pete” R. Whitehair, 77, of Burlington, died Monday, January 13, 2025, at his home.

Born January 15, 1947, in Burlington, he was the son of Oren and Mildred Boyle Whitehair. On May 18, 1991, he married Lou Brown in Rural Wapello.

He graduated from Notre Dame High School.

Pete worked for ISC and for Union Appliance for 20 years each.

He was of the Catholic Faith. Pete loved fishing, hunting, playing cards and always had a sweet tooth. He especially loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Lou Whitehair of Burlington; children, Julie (John) Mangold of Washington, Tom (Kim) Whitehair of Hillsdale, IL, Jackie Baker of Burlington, Jennifer (Carissa) Whitehair of Peoria, IL; three granddaughters, Julie Whitehair, Jessica Serrano and Jeanette Burr; two great granddaughters; three great grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Chris Whitehair, granddaughter, Jodi Baker and son-in-law, Mark Baker.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Daniel H Gentry, 42, of Oakville, died Monday, January 6, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center-Fort Madison in Fort Madison.

Born November 8, 1982, in Burlington, he was the son of William Hollis and Lori Kay Wall Gentry.

When Daniel was able, he worked as a production worker. He also helped as a volunteer with the Oakville Fire Department.

He enjoyed biking and rode in Ragbrai many times. Daniel loved fishing, having bonfires and playing darts and compete in leagues. He had a strong love for animals, especially his German Sheppard, Waldo.

Survivors include His parents, William and  Lori Gentry; one daughter, Chantel R Gentry; three sisters, Melissa K. Glade-Seibert, Hillary L. Gentry, and Debbie R. Gentry; and his aunt, Nancy Hodges.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and daughter, Danielle Hailey Gentry.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Bill Hartsock, 91, of Wapello and Burlington, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Ravenwood Specialty Care in Waterloo. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2025 at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Wapello. Memorial Services with Military Honors will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2025 at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at Rock Island National Cemetery. Billy Dale Hartsock was born on March 24, 1933 in Wapello, Iowa, the son of Leroy “Banty” and Madeline (Dotson) Hartsock. Bill graduated from Wapello High Schools. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. On December 24, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Nichols. Bill worked in management for Bluff Harbor Marina for 10 years and for Sunoco for 20 years. He started the Korean Veterans Iowa Chapter. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, bowling and shooting pool.

Bill will be deeply missed by his daughter, Julie (significant other, Charles) Ervin of Burlington; two grandchildren, Ryan and Zach Ervin; great grandchildren, Spencer, Leon and Kiari and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marjorie on December 12, 2008 and siblings, Larry Hartsock and Darlene Williams.

Jerry Wm. Hite, 79, of Danville, died Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House, West Burlington.  He was born January 6, 1946 in Freeport, Illinois to George R. and Bernadine E. Carpenter Hite.  On December 4, 1971, he married Cheryl “Sherri” Garrels in Burlington.

He was a 1964 graduate of Burlington High School and earned a robotics degree from Indian Hills Community College.  He was a skilled tradesman working for J.I. Case Company in the Experimental Department from June 1974 until June 2008.  He was a member of New London Christian Church.

Jerry loved hunting and being outdoors; was a voracious reader; loved John Wayne and watching old westerns; working on computers; was a black belt in karate; and especially enjoyed visiting with his many friends.

Besides his wife, Jerry is survived by his daughter Allison (Dusty) Furnald of Danville; and his grandchildren Alexis Hite and Kenna and Karlee Furnald.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son Travis Hite; his father and mother-in-law Earl and Doris Garrels; and brothers-in-law David Garrels and Darrell Becker.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 February 1, 2025 at Elliott Chapel, New London, with Pastor Rod Cooper officiating.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 am with the family receiving friends from 10:00 until the time of the service.  According to his wishes, his body has been cremated and inurnment will be held at a later date.  Memorials have been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice and the Danville Fire Department.  Online condolences may be left at www.elliottfuneralchapel.com.

 

 

 

Richard Gail Wyatt, 74, of Fort Madison, Iowa, formerly of Lomax, Illinois, passed away at 10:34 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

Rich was born January 28, 1950 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Chester and Jacqueline (Brown) Wyatt. On April 26, 1970 he married Carla Jean Sparrow. They later divorced. On July 9, 1994 he married Kim Schroeder in Lomax.

Mr. Wyatt was a 1968 graduate of Dallas City High School. Following in his family business, he helped run the family homestead farm, Wyatt’s Dairy Farm, for over 40 years. He loved all aspects of farming, but especially loved spending his summers putting up hay. He enjoyed being the “tour guide” when local schools would visit the farm. He also worked for Exide Battery, General Electric, Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant and served as the Lomax Marshall for seven years. Rich served many years as a Lomax Township Trustee, on the West Central FS Board, Henderson County Farm Bureau Board and was active in Henderson County 4-H; as a participant, parent and livestock judge. He was a member of the Lomax Christian Church and Lomax Fire Department. When he wasn’t working or serving his community, he enjoyed attending rodeos, deer hunting and especially spending time with his family. He was a proud lifelong Republican.

Besides his wife, Kim, survivors include one daughter: Adonica (Michael) Gould of West Des Moines, Iowa; two stepsons: Jason (Michelle Talley) Webster of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Jeremy (Beth) Webster of Lomax; nine grandchildren: Ann Gould of San Francisco, California, Thomas Gould of Geneva, Illinois, Helen Gould of West Des Moines, Iowa, Taylor (Christian) Smith of Cedar Rapids, Kelsey (Masin Shaullaw) Webster of Burlington, Gage Webster of Burlington, Brady Webster of Bentley, Illinois, Braxton Webster of Lomax and Bynna Poggemiller of Burlington; one great-grandson: Hendrix Shaullaw (with one more on the way) and four siblings: Doug (Lois) Wyatt of Dallas City, Don (Pam) Wyatt of Champaign, Illinois, Linda (Kevin) McQuade of Palm Springs, California and Robert Wyatt of Weslaco, Texas..

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Daniel Wyatt.

Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Richard’s Life will be held from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the Lomax Community Center, Lomax, Illinois.

Kathryn Russell, 82, of Lomax, Illinois died January 9, 2025 at her daughter’s home in LaHarpe, Illinois. She was born May 11, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to Dalton and Annie (Johnson) Harris.

Kathryn was always surrounded by family and friends. When she was younger, she enjoyed live country music and line dancing. She loved to cook and bake with her daughters and granddaughters. She would spend her summers outside in her yard, tending to her garden and planting flowers, having bonfires or camping in her RV. She worked at several jobs including the Lomax Canning Factory and The Pink Tavern in Lomax. She also owned and operated Country Café and Russell’s Jewelry Store  in LaHarpe with Robert Russell.

Kathryn is survived by her siblings, Beatrice Blacksmith and Leon Harris, her ex-husband and friend, Robert Russell, five children, Ronald (Beth) Covert of LaHarpe, David (Brenda) Covert of Dallas City, Illinois, Shirley (Darrin) Johnson of LaHarpe, Henry Worley of Lomax and Rebecca (Christopher) Burgdorf of LaHarpe, nine grandchildren, Joshua (Nicole) Covert, Kaela Yelton, Krista Covert, Brian Covert, Matthew (Amber) Covert, Lorrie (Logan) Harl, Jessica (Dawson) Ryner, Kane Burgdorf, Tegan Burgdorf and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dalton and Annie Harris, brother Carl Harris, sister Margaret Shepherd and long-time partner Donald “Doc” Tomlinson.

Larry L. Spiker, 85, of Lomax, Illinois, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025 at his home.

Larry was born August 25, 1939 in Lomax, Illinois, the son of Floyd and Helen (Bowlyou) Spiker. He was married to Sydney Pence. They later divorced. On November 8, 1975 he married Lois M. Peasley. She preceded him in death on December 5, 2014.

Larry was raised, educated and spent all of his life in the Lomax area. In earlier year, he worked for several local farmers. He was employed for a short time at IAAP. He spent most of his life working for JI Case in Burlington, retiring after 29 years. Following his retirement, he enjoyed being able to work for local farmers again. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the memories made hunting and fishing with them. He was always ready to share a beer with any and everyone. He was a longtime member of the former Lomax Saddle Club.

Survivors include two daughters: Lari Jo (Jeff) Smith of Media, Illinois and Traci (Shawn) McKoon of Mediapolis, Iowa; three step-children: Steve (Tyyne) McIntire of Moline, Illinois, Vickie (Randy) McWhorter of Geneseo and Christine (Richard) Hanson of Morton, Illinois; five grandchildren: Ryan (Megan) Smith, Adam (Jenny) Smith, Colton (Jodi) Smith, Raychel (Curtis) Messer and Seth McKoon; numerous great-grandchildren and one sister: Sandie Dumse of Danville, Iowa.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one step-daughter: Peggy and four siblings: John, Donald, Vivian and one in infancy.

Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home.
