Obituaries for Wednesday March 26th

Margaret Ann “Maggie” Nelson, 94, of Burlington, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Bickford of Burlington.

Born December 7, 1930, in Dubuque, she was the daughter of John W. and Margaret Bongert Schneider. On April 15, 1950, she married Ralph Norman Nelson in Monmouth. He died November 24, 2001.

Maggie worked in the office for Fullerton Lumber, which is where she met Ralph. She worked as a bookkeeper for Ralph Nelson Construction Company, which she and her husband owned and operated for 42 years.

She was a member of Harmony Bible Church; helping with Bible studies, card and quilting ministries. Maggie was a volunteer for Great River Medical Center for many years and made many hospice quilts over the years. She loved to travel; from her winter stays in Sanibel Island, Florida with her husband, fishing trips in Canada, to her adventures in Europe.

Survivors include her two sons, Mike (Pam) Nelson of Burlington, and Steve (Sue) Nelson of West Burlington; six grandchildren, Julie (Tyler) Glasgow, Heidi (Marc) Luedtke, Stacey (Jim) Stevens, Carly (Iggy) Frankovic, Geoffrey (Lupita) Nelson, and Ruslan Nelson; 12 great-grandchild; one great great-granddaughter and special friend, Cheryl Vickstrom.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jerry Schneider.

The memorial service for Mrs. Nelson will be 11:00 AM Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Harmony Bible Church, 21589 DMC HWY 79, Danville, IA with Pastor Danny Dingus officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Harmony Bible Church following the service.

Norma Jeanne Palmer, age 78, of Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away at 3:05 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst.  She was born January 12, 1947 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, the daughter of John and Pauline Steward McGraw.  On January 14, 1968, she married Clair E. Palmer in Cairo, Iowa.  He preceded her in death on February 17, 2012.
Jeanne was employed in the laundry department of Great River Medical Center from January of 1975 until her retirement in October of 1999.  She enjoyed camping, crocheting, crossword puzzles, word searches, playing bingo, and attending yard sales.  Most importantly, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter, Lori (John) Lewis of Denmark, IA, five grandchildren, Shawndra (James) Balmer, Shannon Watts, Ashley Bowen, Jennifer (Cameron) LeMaster, Tyler Lewis, and twenty great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one son, Tony Palmer, two sisters, Doris Hillburn and Bonnie Vaughn, and one brother, Donald McGraw.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, with Steve Palmer officiating.  Burial will follow in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.  In honor of Jeanne’s great niece, Caitlin Peterson, a  memorial fund has been established for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  To leave a condolence, please visit Jeanne’s  obituary at banksandbeals.com.
