Joseph Jerome Lewis, 47, pleaded guilty to willful injury and third or subsequent domestic abuse assault after attacking his girlfriend with a metal pipe at the Midtown Motel on October 3.

Police say Lewis told the woman she wouldn’t leave the room alive. She was later found at a gas station, covered in blood, and treated for serious head injuries.

Lewis admitted to the assault during questioning, saying he had blacked out and fled the scene.

As part of a plea deal, he avoided an attempted murder charge. Lewis was sentenced Monday and will receive credit for time served. He was also ordered to pay restitution and will remain under state supervision following his release.
