The Fort Madison Community School District board has chosen a finalist for its next superintendent following closed-session interviews with two candidates. While the board voted unanimously to authorize a consultant to extend an offer, the candidate’s name is being withheld until background checks and contract negotiations are complete.

The finalists, David Keane and Mike Wolter, visited the district on Wednesday for a meet-and-greet and panel interviews. Keane, currently with the West Burlington district, highlighted his administrative experience and praised Fort Madison for offering both a broad curriculum and a close-knit community. Wolter, a former Fort Madison teacher and current Columbus principal, said he has remained closely connected to the district and saw this as the right opportunity to bring his experience back home.

The board is expected to announce the selected candidate soon, with a formal introduction anticipated in the coming days.
