Bridge deck replacement on Roosevelt Avenue/Highway 61 is set to begin soon, reducing traffic to one lane each way and detouring vehicles via Kirkwood and Agency streets. The Iowa DOT project, expected to last through December, will also impact Highway 34 ramps. Burlington City Council will also vote on June 2 on an agreement for traffic control staffing reimbursement.
Additionally, the council will hold a hearing to amend the urban renewal plan, enabling $500,000 in TIF support for an $18 million expansion at Western Smokehouse Partners, expected to create 100 new jobs.
A $3.2 million resurfacing of Washington Street has also been planned for spring 2026, with $876,000 in DOT funding. Further summer council work sessions will cover budget items including city departments, tax reform, and public services, with meetings livestreamed at burlingtoniowa.org.
