
Fort Madison police say the investigation into a March shooting that left a 16-year-old boy dead remains active, with the department still awaiting analysis from the Iowa Crime Lab. Police Chief Cody Potthast confirmed over the weekend that several items are under review and a press release will be issued when more information becomes available.
The shooting occurred early on March 12 at a home on 10th Street near Central Park. The teen died from a gunshot wound to the chest, and authorities previously said there was no ongoing threat to the public.
No charges have been filed. Fort Madison Police are working the case with assistance from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Fort Madison Police at 319-372-2525.
