Area Health Officials Urge Vigilance as Iowa Confirms More Measles Cases

Health officials are urging Iowans to check their vaccination status following two new confirmed measles cases on Wednesday, including one in a vaccinated eastern Iowa man. With over 1,100 cases reported nationally, local health departments are on alert.

Lee County Health Administrator Michele Ross said the risk of exposure remains high due to how easily measles spreads, and emphasized prevention before outbreaks grow worse. She noted that while no vaccine is perfect, the MMR vaccine is the best available protection, and boosters aren’t necessary if both doses have been received.

Residents can contact the county health department to verify immunization records through the state registry. Officials encourage consulting with healthcare providers to see if vaccination is appropriate based on age, health, or immunity.
