Burlington officials are exploring a potential partnership with West Burlington to move forward with the city’s long-planned north-end fire station. City Manager Chad Bird mentioned the discussions during a city council work session, though no specifics were shared. The project was put on hold earlier this year after construction bids came in nearly $2 million over the $7 million bond voters approved in 2023. A joint council meeting between the two cities is expected later in July.

Meanwhile, Burlington Fire Chief Nathan Toops told council members the department also faces the need to replace both of its aging aerial ladder trucks. The estimated replacement cost is $3 million, with delivery taking up to four years. The city plans to lock in pricing now but won’t issue bonds for the purchase until just before the trucks arrive.
