A former prison counselor in Mount Pleasant has pleaded guilty to a felony charge of smuggling contraband into a correctional facility, part of a plea deal that dismisses two other charges, including sexual exploitation and ongoing criminal conduct.

Kimberly Jo Kerr, 47, was arrested in February following an investigation that alleged she had a romantic relationship with an inmate and helped smuggle contraband into the facility. Court records say Kerr admitted to setting up a Cash App account to receive over $5,600 in payments for contraband, mainly tobacco, distributed within the prison.

Authorities say investigators found letters, contraband, and witness statements linking Kerr to the scheme. Her sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 22 in Henry County.
