After years of planning and delays, Keokuk’s riverfront trail project is finally moving into construction. The City Council approved a $1.19 million bid from Jones Contracting to build the trail, which will run about a mile from Victory Park to the boat launch. Construction is expected to take around 65 working days.
The council also approved a $65,500 contract with Shoemaker & Haaland for construction engineering services. Public Works Director Brian Carroll said the city’s share of the cost could total around $145,000, with some public donations from previous years factored in. Overall, the project has more than $1.1 million in restricted grant and donation funds.
