The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office will take part in Saturation Saturday on August 23, joining law enforcement agencies nationwide in a high-visibility crackdown on impaired driving.

Launched by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in 2016, the campaign supports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative. It targets one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.

Drivers should expect extra patrols, sobriety checkpoints, and zero tolerance for impaired drivers. The sheriff’s office urges everyone to plan ahead and designate a sober driver, noting that drunk driving fatalities have risen 31% over the past decade, with data shared by the sheriff’s office showing more than 12,000 lives lost in 2023 alone.
