A Keokuk man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly attacking a relative’s car with an axe and setting his own home on fire during a domestic incident.
Deputies say 41-year-old Richard Daniel Moore argued with a family member Friday at a residence on 270th Avenue, then used an axe to damage a cabinet and the woman’s vehicle. After she fled, Moore reportedly poured gasoline throughout the house, lit a flare, and drove off.
Witnesses extinguished the fire before responders arrived. One of Moore’s juvenile sons was injured and taken to the hospital for stitches. Damage to the home and vehicle is estimated at over $10,000.
Moore remains in the Lee County Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
He faces charges including arson, criminal mischief, child endangerment, and domestic assault. A preliminary hearing is set for August 25 in Keokuk.
